Institution

ICTP has been a driving force behind global efforts to advance scientific expertise in the developing world. Each year, more than 6000 scientists from around the world visit ICTP for its academic, training and sabbatical opportunities. These include a pre-PhD Postgraduate Diploma Programme and PhD programmes run jointly with Trieste universities. ICTP also provides training at laboratories in Trieste and throughout Italy, as well as study and sabbatical visits. Educational opportunities are further enhanced by ICTP's annual programme of more than 60 international conferences and workshops held in Trieste and abroad.

Research expertise

ICTP has research groups in High Energy, Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics; Condensed Matter and Statistical Physics; Earth System Physics; Quantitative Life Sciences; Applied Physics, Mathematics; and new research directions in renewable energy and high-performance computing.

Tasks in MAX

ICTP contributes to MAX by hosting and co-organizing a number of activities aimed to consolidate in the community the technological background needed to master the state of the art of scientific simulation for research on material science at the large scale. In particular, ICTP leads task related to “Filling the pipeline of new generation code developers”, driving the organization of schools and workshops, mostly in the form of hackathons, with a particular focus on software development and training on the MAX flagship codes.
